Anthropic officially launched Claude Cowork in research preview on January 30, 2026. Cowork is a desktop AI assistant similar to Claude Code but with a graphical user interface, aimed at non-technical users.
The launch includes Computer Use, Dispatch remote control, Projects, Windows support, 38+ Connectors, a Plugin marketplace, custom Skills, sub-agents, and scheduled recurring tasks. Remarkably, developers revealed that Cowork was mostly built by Claude Code itself.
Cowork is designed to give every office worker an AI assistant that can create and edit files directly on your machine. It includes domain-specific Plugins for legal, financial analysis, HR, engineering, and operations workflows.
